Why Businessmen Need Philosophy: The Capitalist's Guide to the Ideas Behind Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged and a great selection of related books, art and collectibles available now at Atlas Shrugged is two books in one: a novel and a book of philosophy. As a novel, AS is very good. It has interesting characters that change over the course of the book in ways that seem reasonable given their worldview and the world they live in. The plot also makes sense and is very effective at presenting Rand's worldview.

Atlas Shrugged. I got interested in the book after seeing the two films. I am reading the entire book to compare the movie to the book. It is a long book, but I would recommend it to serious readers. Ed K. May 9, Remarkable Book. This book should be required reading for everybody!! For a book published over half a century ago it it /5(38). As I recall, "Atlas Shrugged" did not become the novel's title until Miss Rand's husband made the suggestion in The working title throughout the writing was "The Strike." The earliest of Miss Rand's notes for "The Strike" are dated January 1, , about a year after the publication of The Fountainhead.4/5(32).

Atlas Shrugged, the book, is all about a slowly unfolding story of mystery and no section or chapter begins with a teaser, although many end with cliff-hangers. To use a teaser, especially at the beginning of the film, reverses that dramatic build to run upstream and contrary to the book's feel of tension.
